about

Waltzing Matilda - this song at the very core of Australian culture was played in a minor key, expressing how deeply saddened I had become about the state of our country. The destruction of the Reef, the bloodyminded push-thru against all logic of the Adani mega coal mine, the increasing neo-liberal agenda eroding our liberties and freedom of speech (Assange) which always seemed such a core feature of our country. We called a ‘spade a spade’ but now we were just digging ourself deeper and losing, so it seems, the Aussie will to fight it!

lyrics

WALTZING MATILDA Banjo Patterson
Arrangement Anu Grace 2019. https://youtu.be/2gi6ShIpers
Verse 1
Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong,
Under the shade of a Coolibah tree,
And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled,
Who’ll come a Waltzing Matilda with me.
Chorus
Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda,
Who’ll come a Waltzing Matilda with me,
And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled
Who'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me.
Verse 2
Down came a jumbuck to drink at that waterhole;
Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him with glee,
And he sang as he shoved that jumbuck in his tucker bag,
"You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me."
Chorus ... And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled
kookaburra sits in the old gum tree ......
Verse 3
Up rode the squatter mounted on his thoroughbred;
Up rode the troopers: one, two, three:
"Whose that jolly jumbuck you've got in your tucker bag?
You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me."
Chorus (with different last line)
“You'll come a Waltzing, you scoundrel with me."
Verse 4
Up jumped the swagman, sprang into that billabong:
"You'll never take me alive," said he.
And his ghost may be heard as you pass by that billabong -
"You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me
