The title track “Belong to Country “was written in response to the shocking summer of 2019, the bush fires & massive suffering of people and wildlife that left many of us so shocked and grieving the loss of the Australia we knew. The song was fully embraced at the Newkind Festival in Marion Bay, Tas. and became a bit of a theme song, marking everyone’s Grief.
It was here that Ruth Langford - Yorta Yorta woman, shared her simple ceremony reminding us that her ancestors were waiting for us to acknowledge them in the Country around us, to see them, even just imagine them - where else would they be after 60,000 years but in the land itself, in the trees, the rock formations. Something seismic shifted in me - a polar ice melt of guilt as a white Australian woman - with the thought that I actually could, ‘Belong to Country’
